During the last day of our lustrum week, we traditionally dedicated the evening to a crazy auction. With a slideshow full of memories of the past 30 years in the background (automatically taken from our archives by WebCo-whizkids Lotte and Joris), auctioneer and former member Daan Geijs sold us all kinds of Aloha-related items. There was a large variety of items to bid on, from socks to a trip to Mallorca, and from the founding documents to a tritop – very charming triathlon fashion from years ago. There were even bids to put that fashion on immediately and wear it for the rest of the evening!
But of course, the proceeds did not benefit the club itself. Inspired by Members of Merit Eva and Izak, the lustrum committee had chosen the Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Enschede for this purpose. This organisation offers children whose parents have a low income the chance to participate in sports and cultural activities inside and outside school. In total, thanks to the generous contributions of all (former) Alohans and Mahalots, we raised over 5000 euros! To our knowledge, this is a record.
On a cold Friday morning in November, we presented this in the form of a cheque to Michel van Sluijs, the foundation’s secretary. He was immensely grateful, as can be seen in the cover photo above!
