Tuesday – lustrum symposium

8 October 2024
Coordinator: Lotte Steenmeijer

Triathlon symposium

19:30 walk-in
20:00 start
~21:00 break
On the second day of the lustrum week, we dive (back) into the lecture halls! We have invited some super fun speakers from around the country, each of whom will tell us an inspiring story from their corner of the triathlon world. During the break there will be coffee and tea, with a piece of cake included (included in the registration fee). As we think this will be of interest to every triathlete from Enschede, members of Triathlon Club Twente are also welcome – see the Dutch page for more information.

Speakers

Margret IJdema
Anyone can compete in a sprint triathlon, no excuses

Margret IJdema has been in the world’s top 10 in her wheelchair women’s class (PTWC-H1) for 7 years. 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km wheeling (running) is the Paralympic distance she has enjoyed for years. She would now like to pass on her international baton to the new generation of para-athletes! And then, of course, preferably a wheelchair lady with international ambitions! Triathlon is always a challenge, take that challenge and above all enjoy it.

Koen van Meeuwen
“All that it takes, is all that you’ve got” – the challenges of ultra-distance triathlons

Where most athletes want to get faster, I always found my energy in trying to go longer… After a few full-distance triathlons I found out that there are actually triathlons that are even longer than an ironman, so my curiousity led me to my first ‘Double’… Over the last few years I finished 4 ‘Doubles’ a ‘Triple’ and a ‘Quintuple (5 times iron-distance)’, and the search for my limits is still ongoing…

Bouke Scheltinga
Running towards an injury free world

Bouke Scheltinga combines two of his passions: running and research. As a long-time member of triathlon associations Aloha and TCT, Bouke has vast experience in running as both an athlete and a trainer. His PhD research based at the University of Twente and the Roessingh rehabilitation centre expands on this running basis: his research uses various sensors to estimate the load on runners, with the ultimate aim of injury prevention.

Marcel ten Wolde
De route naar de top

Marcel ten Wolde (1970) will explain the route an athlete goes through from novice youth triathlete to reaching the Olympics. He will do this based on how the Dutch Triathlon Federation currently facilitates this. Marcel ten Wolde is top sports coordinator (since 2023) and head coach talent development (since 2018) at the NTB. He has been doing triathlon since 1988, became a trainer at GVAV Triathlon and coach of Triteam Groningen in the premier league. He has done several triathlons in a variety of formats and considers his finish in the Copenhagen full triathlon one of his finest achievements.
